Your nagging call drops may soon fetch you a Re 1 compensation with telecom regulator Trai proposing a penalty in lieu of deficient services. Trai's penalty may be announced soon, by Friday if sources are to be believed, and will be applicable nationally and across all operators.
Top sources in the government said that a serious view has been taken of the menace - which had only been growing - and thus the measure has been taken. The call drop issue has been flagged off by the top echelons of the government which include Prime Minister Narendra Modi, finance minister Arun Jaitley and telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.
The finer details about how to measure, and account for, a dropped call will be announced as and when Telecom Regulatory Authority of India makes the new regulation public.
Earlier in the day, Telecom Minister Prasad also expressed concern over the dropped calls, and said that telecom operators should correct the deficient services immediately.
