As of today, 4 out of our 5 favorite Gryffindor boys have TV shows. Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) has A Young Doctor’s Notebook. Dean Tomas (Alfred Enoch) has How To Get Away With Murder. Neville Longbottom (Matthew Lewis) has not one but two BBC shows. And now, Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) is coming soon to NBC.
So sorry, Seamus Finnigan (Devon Murray), none for you yet.
As Deadline reports, Grint is going to headline a brand new show that was actually created for him. That’s magic right there. The show sounds like it will be a hybrid police show/superhero show that revolves around the life of Grint’s character, who is actually named Rupert. The plot of the show will follow Rupert, who is “obsessed with Imperial City, a comic book series his father created before his death. Rupert has spent his whole life believing he owned all nine issues. But when a mysterious comic book collector reveals the existence of a tenth issue, Rupert discovers that the world of Imperial City is real, and he is the one person who can save it.”
This is some amazing stuff and will mark the first time Grint has crossed over to the TV world (because all the cool Gryffindors are doing it). If you’re not already excited enough, the still-untitled show comes fromUgly Betty creator Silvio Horta. Now take a second and imagine an Ugly Betty-like superhero show that stars one of our favorite redheads. How could anyone not be on board with this?
The series has snagged a put pilot order, which means that one way or another we will see this show, whether as a true series or a made-for-TV movie. Either works for us, but what we’d really like is for this show to last for at least 5-7 seasons. It’s in development right now, and hopefully it’ll land on our Muggle televisions sets soon.
