Near the peaks of the Himalayan Mountains, a region where no humans live, resides the world’s largest honey bee, the Himalayan Cliff Bee which can grow up to three centimetres in length.
The red honey produced by these bees has fascinating properties, for example, it helps to cure diabetes, poor sexual performance, hypertension, and more. It is popular among locals of China and Nepal.
A tribe of Gurungun people, commonly referred to as the honey hunters, are group of daring individuals that face the risks and make a living off of the rare honey. Not everyone can climb high altitude to get hold of these bees.
The hives grow up to 5 feet in diameter and contain about 60 kg of honey each. Honey is collected from them twice a year, during spring and autumn. It is believed that due to more flower population in the spring season, the honey extracted is the most sought after batch.
