Travel website 'The Guide to Sleeping In Airports' has ranked Asia's airports by how much they suck - and not surprisingly, Chennai finds a mention at number 7.
Stinky toilets, shitty baggage handling
The site ranked the airports after a survey of almost 27,000 fliers, based on comfort, convenience, cleanliness and customer service. Travellers were also quite outspoken about how smelly its dirty toilets are. “Bathroom-wise, problems tend to stem from the leaking faucets, the dirty floors and the never-scrubbed toilets. This is all particularly remarkable given that the airport added a new terminal and a series of renovations in 2012,” the survey said. Other issues they mentioned include slow baggage handling, calling it "unlikely that you'll find a working trolley or helpful staff – in spite of there being so many of them wandering around.”
Delhi's IGI - the world's best
On the other hand, Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) was voted the WORLD's best airport for 2014, by the Airports Council International (ACI). The Delhi airport scored 4.90 on a scale of 5 points measured by 300 members of the ACI benchmarking programme. As many as 40 million passengers used IGIA to reach 58 domestic and 62 international destinations in 2014-15. The average flight movements were 885 per day while 696,000 metric tonnes of cargo was handled. IGIA hosts six domestic carriers, 56 international carriers and also has the capacity to handle the gigantic Airbus A380 aircraft.
