An Mi-17 transport helicopter of the Indian Air Force yesterday made and emergency landing in Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex business district. The helicopter and it's earlier iteration, the Mi-8 are the workhorse of the helicopter transport fleet of the IAF. According to the latest reports, a hydraulic failure caused the emergency. The vast open spaces of BKC allowed the helicopter to make a safe landing. All crew aboard the aircraft are said to be safe and a technical team is now at the spot
India had agreed to buy 80 of the new improved version, the Mi-17 V5 from Russia. In addition to that a contract for 48 more of these were agreed upon. At first appearance, the helicopter that landed in Mumbai doesn't seem to be the V5.
