Only recently the Big Ben was found running 6 seconds slow, chiming at the wrong time according to Clocsksmiths, who look after the Parliament's clocks. Following its repair in August, the country's politicians now warn of a permanent damage to the clock if urgent repairs are not carried out soon.
And at a cost that can round off to a massive 40 million pounds (Rs 400 crores)!
There are three Clocksmiths who work as caretakers of the clock, London's famous landmark that is set to see a major renovation after three decades. This means that the clock will go silent for an indefinite period, as according to a report, Big Ben's hands, pendulum, mechanism, and Elizabeth Tower, all will undergo a major overhaul.
Clocksmith Ian Westworth has confirmed that the clock "does have a little fit every now and then" because of its old age.
The report further states: "There are major concerns that if this is not carried out...the clock mechanism is at risk of failure with the huge risk of international reputational damage for Parliament."
