Bollywood is a crowded fish bowl, and very often, great actors fall through the cracks. Take a look at 10 such.
1. Divya Dutta
She has been a part of our Hindi films for ages now, but has remained unnoticed for quite some time. One of her best performances was in the film 'Train to Pakistan', a film adaptation of Khushwant Singh's book, which was set against the backdrop of partition. However, not many people know about it. She managed to grab some attention for her small role in Veer-Zaara. Following that, she has done a couple of interesting roles like Jalebi in Delhi-6 and Milkha’s sister in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Despite this, her acting skills haven’t received the much needed appreciation.
2. Manoj Bajpai
This bad boy is undoubtedly one of the best villains Bollywood has ever had. It's amazing how he manages to strike the right chord every time. He left us speechless in Gangs of Wasseypur. And he managed to leave a mark in Raajneeti, where he had a relatively smaller role. He gets into every character he decides to portray and one cannot deny that he’s really an actor who deserves way more acclaim than he’s got.
3. Swara Bhasker
She has the cutest smile in B-town. And of course, she manages to pull off the super nice ‘best friend’ role with perfection. She’s popular for films like Ranjhaana and Tanu weds Manu, but we want to see more of her. Today, she's one of those actors who has the potential to compete with the likes of Deepika Padukone.
4. Vinay Pathak
We have seen him and adored him, but somehow failed to give him his due. His comic timing is out of this world and acting comes most naturally to him. Even though he hasn’t done too many commercial films, his tiny role in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi was just super cute. Our favourite performance of him was his role in Khosla Ka Ghosla.
5. Rajat Kapoor
The man has moved from acting to direction. His recent film Ankhon Dekhi wasn’t a blockbuster, but somehow managed to create an audience for itself. This Kapoor has been in B-town for a while and people fondly recall him as Preity Zinta’s classy uncle in Dil Chahta Hai, and the pervert uncle in Monsoon Wedding. There are many other great films in his kitty, but even then he hasn't really experienced commercial success.
6. Atul Kulkarni
Despite winning two national awards for Chaandni Bar and Hey-Ram, people don't really know him. He has done more Marathi films than Hindi and it’s been a while since we spotted him in a Bollywood film. He’s probably picky about the roles he does and they always have to be characters that are trying to change society or are influenced by moral values. But whatever the case, he has carved his own space. Our favourite role of him would be the young politician in Rang De Basanti.
7. Pawan Malhotra
Sadly, people think of him more as a familiar face than a great actor. We want to think otherwise. He’s probably the most preferred choice for playing an uncle like he did in Delhi-6 and Jab We Met. His role as Milkha Singh’s coach in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag was definitely memorable. Although he’s done some heavy duty roles like Tiger Memon in Black Friday and a few others, he is still not that popular as an ace actor.
8. Arshad Warsi
Arshad Warsi began his career long before people started noticing him. By now however, everyone knows that he is immensely talented. Be it comic roles, emotional roles or something more serious, this guy can pull it off. We will let the directors decide, but we can vouch for one thing. No one could ace the character of Circuit the way this man did.
9. Sushant Singh
We miss watching him on the big screen. In films like 16th December and Lakshya, even those tiny roles were portrayed with utmost intensity. But his role as Sukhdev in The Legend Of Bhagat Singh was where we realised just how this guy could act.
10. Jimmy Shergill
He’s got the chocolate boy looks. And on top of that, he can act. He has a loyal fan following and people cannot stop debating on the fact that yes, indeed, he’s underrated. From commercial films like Mohabbatein to the recent 'Sahib, Biwi Aur Gangster', he’s really imbibed the art. He’s probably one of the few who has grown as an actor, and we’d love to see more of him!
