When we talk about India and her border in the same breath, the first thing that crosses our mind is obviously Pakistan, and sometimes China. What we forget is that our gloriously massive country actually has the world's third largest international border, after China and Russia! And it shares this border with many as seven nations!
NASA's latest pictures showing the Indo-Pak border at night inspired us to look for photographs of all the seven borders. Here's what we found!
CHINA-
i) India first meets China at Chumar, Ladakh.
ii) Then in Himachal Pradesh.
iii) They meet each other again in Uttarakhand.
iv) Before meeting again in the east at Nathula Pass, Sikkim.
PAKISTAN
i) India first meets Pakistan in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Suchetgarh.
ii) LOC.
iii) The Indo-Pak border in Rajasthan.
iv) Then again in Gujarat.
v) Everybody is familiar with the Wagah border.
vi) India and Pakistan should be proud of how gorgeous the border looks from space.
SRI LANKA
A land stretch of approximately 100 metres makes the Indo-Sri Lanka border the shortest land border in the world.
BANGLADESH
The fifth longest land border in the world at 4,096 kms, India first meets Bangladesh at Kishanganj.
i) They then meet in West Bengal.
ii) Then in Meghalaya.
iii) To Mizoram, and
iv) Tripura.
NEPAL
i) India first meets Nepal in Uttarakhand. This border is most used for trading, among other commercial uses.
ii) Going east, they meet in Bihar.
iii) Before crossing paths in Uttar Pradesh.
BHUTAN
i) We first meet the happy country in Jaigaon, West Bengal.
ii) Then at Bumthang, in Arunachal Pradesh.
MYANMAR
i) India first meets Burma at Moreh in Manipur.
ii) Then at Champhai in Mizoram
iii) And again in Nagaland.
India, it's as big as it's beautiful, isn't it? They say people staying in little towns on the borders get to imbibe the best of both countries. Try making a list of cities to visit that are along the border of India. Not only will it be an amazing feat if you manage to tick off all the seven nations (without getting yourself in trouble), but you'll also return with a bag full of memories and stories to cherish for generations.
