The missile complex comprising Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Advanced Systems Laboratory (ASL) and Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) was renamed as " APJ Abdul Kalam Missile Complex" on Thursday, the former president's birth anniversary.
Union defence minister Manohar Parrikar unveiled the new name at the main gate of the RCI. He said all communications from the missile complex should take place on new letterheads with immediate effect. He also paid glowing tributes to Kalam, saying, "Just like how a missile has a seeker, scientists have to be guided by Kalam's life."
Scientific advisor to Raksha Mantri and director of RCI G Satheesh Reddy and Chevella MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy were also present. Meanwhile. Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao unveiled a bronze statue of Kalam at DRDL.
