8 Movies That Had Beautiful Endings Which Made Us Smile & Cry At The Same Time!

Every movie buff knows the importance of a touching climax and most of us are suckers for a happy ending. However, there have been many Bollywood movies which had not-so-happy-endings yet they managed to strike a chord with our hearts. These kinds of movies leave us with a bittersweet joy. Some even leave us with tears and a smile at the same time.
Here’s a look at some of those movies which have a tragic yet beautiful ending.

    1. Kal Ho Naa Ho

    Kal Ho na ho
Okay, before you go into an angry fit and ask how can SRK’s death onscreen be a beautiful thing to watch, here’s the thing – If you look at the bigger picture, SRK taught a mundane Preity Zinta how to value life. He helped Saif realize the value of love. Come to think of it, he played cupid for Preity and Saif and gave them their happy ending.

    2. Goliyon Ki Raas Leela Ram-Leela

    Ram Leela
Although the plot of the film was way too clichéd, the lead couple Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone sharing screen space more than made up for the trite story. The climax, however, was nail-biting as the two lovers, bound by the family rivalry took each others lives to save their respective families from killing each other. What’s the good thing about this, you ask? Well, if you don’t remember, the families made amends with each other after the tragic deaths and in a way those two ended the long-standing enmity along with their lives.

    3. Rang De Basanti

    Rang De Basanti
Personally, this film remains to be my favourite. To call this film revolutionary would be an understatement. A never seen before story, this film is one of those few films which actually depicts patriotism in true sense. Aamir Khan along with his boy gang get inspired from freedom fighters and decide to bring a change in the hollow and corrupt system. The end was tragic because the government plays defensive and ends up assassinating the entire gang. However, the best thing about this film’s climax is that even though the boys died, they successfully ignited a fire in the youth.

    4. Raanjhaana

    Raanjhanaa
South superstar Dhanush’s debut film garnered a lot of appreciation because of an innocent and realistic script. A one-sided lover, Dhanush tries every way possible to make Sonam fall for him. Unfortunately, the girl has eyes only for Abhay Deol. But Dhanush’s unintentional act leads to the tragic death of Deol. The beauty of this film lies in the fact that Dhanush successfully manages to make Sonam fall for him even though it’s after his own death.

    5. Ghajini

    Ghajini
Perfectionist Aamir Khan’s mystery thriller had a sad plot. The unfortunate death of his girlfriend fills him with vengeance. He then goes on a quest to find the man who killed the love of his life and left him disabled with a memory disorder. The end is tragic for obvious reasons but the bitter-sweetness lies in the fact that he is able to take his revenge for his true love. This is something that gave the audience a big reason to smile.

    6. Kai Po Che

    Kai Po Che
Based on Chetan Bhagat’s bestseller novel ‘The Three Mistakes Of My Life’, this film is as good as the book itself. Three friends with big dreams find themselves entangled in a series of problems varying from monetary troubles to religion battles. Even after such a traumatic incident the film ends on a good note when the dreams of the three boys get fulfilled despite one of them killing the other.

    7. Rockstar

Even though Ranbir Kapoor’s musical journey had many shades of tragedy something about this film screamed positivity. Despite having a fabulous career, Jordan Aka Ranbir’s personal life hits rock bottom, when the love of his life marries another man. Well, tragedy doesn’t end here. It takes a turn for the worse when she suffers from a  lethal disease. The good thing, however, about this Imtiaz Ali’s film is that Ranbir honors the promise of his love that he would one day become a super-successful singer. How can one forget the beautiful climax scene where Jordan is crooning ‘Nadaan Parinde Ghar Aaja’ and Nargis is looking serenely gorgeous in a white number!

    8. Katti Batti

    Katti Batti
A recent film, Katti Batti even though could not make it big at the box office, did manage to win our hearts. Kangana playing the ultimate party girl and a bitchy girlfriend to Imran Khan, managed to make us cry and smile at the same time. Imran’s true love and dedication towards his cancer-battling girlfriend was also laudable. The climax scene of Kangana dying in Imran’s arms tugged at our heart strings in a good way.
