11 Times SRK's Unconventional Roles Won Our Hearts For Good

    SRK
After playing the 'perfect lover boy' for years in films like DDLJMohabbatein andVeer Zara, your Rahul/Raj is all geared up for a massive role make-over in his next film, Raees! After watching the teaser of Raees, we could do nothing but reminisce about Shah Rukh from his long lost days as a bad man in his films Baazigar andDarr. After almost a decade of being the perfect lover anyone would kill to romance, SRK's ruthless avatar in Raees looks like something else. In the film, SRK has kajal in his eyes and a taabiz, and he plays Miyanbhai - a Gujarat-based bootlegger who sports nothing but Pathaani kurtaas. Don't forget, the bad-ass tagline - 'Baniye ka dimaag aur Miyanbhai ki daring'.
But Raees isn't the first film where SRK will play a dark character. SRK has never hesitated in experimenting with his looks and roles. From a pyscho lover in Darr to a nerdy scientist in Ra.One, SRK has stepped into the shoes of versatility too many times to count. Here are 11 other films where SRK won our hearts with his 'different' looks.

    1. SRK as Ajay Sharma in Baazigar

    SRK
An average Abbas-Mustan suspense thriller was brought to life by SRK. It was the first time he played an anti-hero, and it landed him his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor. The film became a huge commercial success and Ajay Sharma totally deserved all the appreciation he got after the release of the film.

    2. SRK as Rahul Mehra in Darr

    SRK
Before stepping into the shoes of Raj in DDLJ, SRK played the role of the obsessive and pyscho stalker and lover in the movie Darr. His dialogue, "I love kkkkiran..." still haunts us. He was too good as a bad man in the film.

    3. SRK as Devdas in Devdas

    SRK
SRK won our heart ever since he played Dev in Devdas and said these lines, "Itna guroor toh chaand ko bhi nahi hai". The epic saga of love would not have been Bhansali's hit without Shahrukh. His charm as an actor can't be matched up by any other actor. To sum it up, Devdas was one of Shahrukh's finest performances.

    4. SRK as Asoka in Ashoka The Great

    Asoka
Even though the movie proved to be a big disaster on the big screen, the audience, particularly SRK fans, couldn't help but praise him for his attempt to do something very different from his usual on-screen characters. He went out of his way of playing a hopeless romantic on screen. He tried and was quite convincing as Asoka!

    5. SRK as Kishan and Ghost in Paheli

    Paheli
Amol Palekar's fairy-tale story Paheli was no less than a visual delight. It was one of the best looking Hindi films ever, with the most vibrant colors of rural India splattered all over it! King Khan's double in the film was a delectable treat for the audience. He proved yet again that no matter what the world says, he is the finest actor in Hindi Cinema. His 'Mooch' and turban looked opulent and he looked as dashing as ever.

    6. SRK as Major Ram and a nerdy student in Main Hoon Na

    SRK
SRK as an over-aged student/Major Ram was impressive. He played two characters simultaneously in the film and his way of balancing the two on-screen, doing comedy, drama and  action, was commendable. Don't forget his romance with his chemistry teacher AKA Sushmita Sen that was an added bonus!

    7. SRK as Captain Veer Pratap Singh in Veer Zara

    Veer
In Yash Chopra's saga on eternal love, King Khan’s charismatic personality on-screen was alluring. Even though Veer had many shades of emotions, he managed to sway the audience with his larger-than-life romance. The court room scene where he read out a poem in the end is hypnotizing.

    8. SRK as Om in Om Shaanti Om

    SRK in OSO
Even with all its flaws, Farah Khan's OSO was a fun film to watch. Humour, pain and drama were placed aptly in parts of the film. But the best parts of the film remain the dialogues that were exchanged between Om and his mother, played by Kirron Kher. Deepika's debut film was a commercial success and all thanks to King Khan!

    9. SRK as Surinder Sahni/Raj in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi

    srk
SRK played two roles in the film and hats off to him for pulling off both characters in the film with ease. We actually thought that Suriji and Raj were two different people in the film. King Khan proved that when it comes to romance on the big screen, no one does it better.

    10. SRK as Rizwan Khan in My Name Is Khan

    MNIK
For the first time in his career, SRK played the role of a mildly autistic man in Karan Johar's My Name is Khan. His dialogue delivery was adorable and few of his dialogues like "Kuch khaas awaazon se dil ki dhadkane tezz ho jaati hai", melted our hearts there and then. Romance between a specially-abled man and a single mother, Mandira (Kajol) was one of a kind and both actors did justice to their roles.

    11. SRK as Shekhar Subramanium and G.One in Ra.One

    SRK
It won't be wrong to say that SRK pulled Ra.One off entirely on his shoulders. Both of his characters were adorable. And though critics couldn't gulp down the success of the film due to the 'lack of a story', Ra.One broke box-office records and became a big hit.
