You have spent hours watching them, discussing their story lines and their characters, and wondering what will happen next in your favourite show. You undoubtedly love your favourite show to bits, but there are so many things you didn’t know about them! Here are a few lesser-known facts about your favourite international TV shows which will make you love them even more.
1. You’ve Already Seen Harvey Specter’s Father And Wife In The ‘Suits’!
Remember the law consultant Zoe Lawford, who had to leave for London because her brother had cancer and she had to bring his daughter up? That character was played by Gabriel Macht’s wife, Jacinda Barett. Also, Professor Gerard, the Harvard professor who knows about Mike’s dirty secret, is played by Stephen Macht, Gabriel Macht’s father.
2. You Knew Sherlock Is Popular, But You Definitely Didn’t Know It Was THIS Popular!
When he visited China, British PM David Cameron was asked to tell the BBC crew to release the episodes faster for it was really painful to wait for two years! It is amazing to see the kind of fan following the show ( with 69 million viewers) has, given that the only way to watch the show in China is illegal.
3. ‘Game Of Thrones’ Has Been Banned By The Turkish Military
In November 2014, it was revealed that a number of television programmes, including ‘Game of Thrones’, had been banned in military schools belonging to the Turkish army, for it is believed to propagate “sexual exploitation, pornography, exhibitionism, abuse, harassment and all negative behaviours”. This isn't the first time that ‘Game of Thrones’ has caused trouble within the country’s army. In 2012, officers were kicked out of a military academy in Istanbul for allowing cadets to watch the show.
4. Remember Robin’s Dogs In Season 1 of ‘How I Met Your Mother’, The Ones You Never Saw Again?
Josh Radnor (Ted Mosby) revealed that he is allergic to dogs, something the creators didn’t know until they cast him. That most probably was the reason why there were no dogs in the show thereafter.
5. ‘Breaking Bad’ Isn’t Exactly A Work Of Fiction Anymore
While there hasn’t really been a real Heisenberg’, the series did manage to inspire a few people to walk on his path. William Duncan, a chemistry teacher from Texas, was arrested for selling home-cooked meth within school grounds in 2011; and Stephen Doran, a Boston teacher with stage 3 cancer, was found dealing meth and was arrested in May 2015.
The most interesting case happened in 2008, when an Alabama man featured on the state’s Most Wanted list thanks to his thriving meth business. Admittedly, he was neither a teacher nor a cancer sufferer. But his name was Walter White.
6. The Actors In ‘FRIENDS’ Are Friends Indeed!
During the first season, all the protagonists of the show were receiving around $22,000 per episode each. But by the second season, each actor had a different salary. In 1997, all six cast members refused to work until they all earned an equal salary of $100,000 per episode. This negotiation worked very well, for by the final season, each cast member was earning $1 million per episode.
7. There’s A Bee Named In The Honor Of ‘The Big Bang Theory’
The species is named Euglossa Bazinga; it was earlier confused to be an existing breed of the orchid bee known as Euglossa Ignita. The discoverers decided to name the bee ‘Bazinga’, because the word is used by Sheldon whenever he tricks someone, and they had been tricked by the similarity of the bee to Euglossa Ignita.
8. Guess Who Is A Fan Of The ‘House Of Cards’?
It’s not a matter of surprise though, but Barack Obama is a diehard follower of ‘House of Cards’. So much so, that he himself took time to tweet a warning to his 55.5 million followers when Season 3 was about to begin. Looks like even the President doesn’t get an exclusive copy!
Tomorrow: @HouseOfCards. No spoilers, please.
